Speculation and Deduction እንጠቀማለን

ግምት እና መደምደሚያ የሚጠቀሙት ስንገምት እና ከምናውቀው፣ ከምናየው፣ ከምንሰማው ወይም ሊሆን ይችላል ብለን ከምንያስበው ላይ በመመስረት ሎጂካዊ መደምደሚያዎችን ስናደርግ ነው። ብዙ ጊዜ must፣ may፣ might፣ could፣ can’t እና should ያሉ ሞዳል ግሶችን እንጠቀማለን። እነሱም እኛ በጣም እርግጠኞች መሆናችንን፣ አንድ ነገር የሚቻል፣ የማይቻል ወይም የሚጠበቅ መሆኑን ለማሳየት ይረዱናል።

She looks exhausted. She must be working too hard.

በዚህ ርዕስ ውስጥ ሞዳል ግሥን እንደ እርግጠኝነት ደረጃ እና ስለ አሁን፣ በአሁኑ ጊዜ በመቀጠል ላይ ያለ ሂደት፣ ያለፈ ውጤት ወይም እስከ አሁን ድረስ የቀጠለ እንቅስቃሴ እየተነጋገርን እንደሆነ በመመርኮዝ እንመርጣለን። ከአብዛኞቹ ሞዳል ግሦች በኋላ bare infinitiveን (to ሳይኖረው) እንጠቀማለን። እዚህ ዋናው ልዩ ሁኔታ ought to ነው። ለተጠናቀቀ ያለፈ ድርጊት ብዙውን ጊዜ have + V3 እንጠቀማለን፣ ለሂደት ደግሞ be + Ving ወይም have been + Ving እንጠቀማለን።

  • Must ለጠንካራ መደምደሚያ ይጠቀማል፦ አንድ ነገር እውነት መሆኑን ማስረጃ ወይም ለማመን የሚያስችል ሎጂካዊ ምክንያት ስላለን በጣም እርግጠኞች ነን። 100% እውነታ አይደለም፣ ግን በጣም እርግጠኛ የሆነ መደምደሚያ ነው።
    Their car is outside. They must be at home.

    ❌ There couldn’t be enough food for everyone. (if you only mean “maybe not”)

  • Mustn’t በተለምዶ ለግምት መውሰድ አይጠቀምበትም። ብዙውን ጊዜ መከልከል ማለት ነው። አንድ ነገር አልቻለም ማለት ከፈለጉ can’t ይጠቀሙ፤ mustn’t አይደለም።

  • ከሞዳል ግሶች በተጨማሪ፣ ግምት በሌሎች ቃላትም ሊገለጽ ይችላል፦ be likely to፣ be unlikely to፣ be bound to፣ probably እና definitely።

በዚህ ርዕስ ውስጥ፣ አሉታዊ ቅጾች በትርጉሙ ላይ ይመሰረታሉ። May not / might not = አንድ ነገር እውነት እንዳልሆነ ሊሆን ይችላል ማለት ነው። Can’t / couldn’t = የማይቻል ነው። Shouldn’t አንድ ነገር ምናልባት ትክክል እንዳልሆነ ወይም ምናልባት መከሰት እንደማይገባው ያለ ግምት ሊገልጽ ይችላል። Mustn’t ብዙ ጊዜ ክልከላ ማለት ነው፣ እንጂ አሉታዊ ግምት አይደለም።
